On March 23, 2025, Our Lady of Vailankanni Church, Old Town, Bhadravathi, celebrated International Women’s Day with a meaningful liturgy. Following the liturgy, various cultural programs enriched the celebration.

Mrs. Mary D’Souza, Diocesan President of the Executive Body of the Commission for Women, elaborated on the Commission’s aims, objectives, membership rules, and annual subscription. She encouraged women to participate at the diocesan level and invited them to attend the 7th National Conference in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She also presented appreciation certificates to the President and Secretary and awarded a shield to Mrs. Reshma and Sr. Shobhana SCB in recognition of their contributions.

Fr. Stevan D’Sa, the parish priest, acknowledged the immense contributions of women in the parish and encouraged them to represent the Church at the diocesan and state levels. He emphasized their vital role in raising children with strong values and assured them of his prayers and blessings, recognizing their invaluable role in building up the Church.

Sr. Wilma Rebello, Superior of St. Charles Convent, Nirmala Hospital, Bhadravathi, congratulated the women on their talents and contributions. She encouraged them to be motivators in their families, emphasizing that their virtues—such as patience, hard work, and love—enable them to help create God’s kingdom on earth.

Sr. Theresa Mascarenhas SCB spoke about the importance of unity within the group, after which Sr. Shobhana and Mrs. Johnny Assumpta were honored for their significant contributions.

The program was skillfully anchored by Mrs. Rita J., with Mrs. Irine D’Souza extending a warm welcome to the gathering and  it included many cultural events by the women of the parish Mrs. Eliza Lawrence proposing the vote of thanks. The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal shared by nearly 150 participants.
