“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world (Gal. 6:14). Keeping this Pauline theme in mind, the Diocesan executive committee of ‘Yuvamitra’, Youth Commission of Shimoga with the motto: “O cross of Christ be exalted high” planned the Journey of the RYC Cross.
The members of the youth central team carried the Regional Youth convention Cross into the Cathedral which was blessed by Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao, S.J. Bishop of Shimoga on the occasion of the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shimoga on 24th June 2022. While praying specially for the enthusiastic youth team, he prayed for the Shimoga Diocese, that the abundant blessings of the Cross may come on each Parish, every family and all the members of the Diocese of Shimoga.
After the blessing Bishop Francis Serrao, S.J. solemnly handed over the cross to Youth Director Fr Pius D’ Souza and the Youth Team. The members of Diocesan executive committee marched forward with lighted candles as Mr Aaron D’Souza the president of Young Catholic Students/ Young Student Movement (YCS/YSM) carried the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) Cross to be placed at a specially decorated place in the Cathedral.
The faithful gathered in the Cathedral bowed down reverently singing hymn of exultation of the Holy Cross. Fr. Pius D’Souza the Youth Director of the Diocese of Shimoga in his keynote address pointed the importance of the RYC Cross journey in the diocese and purpose of sending it to the respective parishes. Fr. Pius D’ Souza expressed his gratitude to Bishop Francis Serrao S.J. for solemnly blessing the cross and for his special prayers for all.
He thanked Rev Fr. Stany D’ Souza the parish priest of Cathedral, the priests of the Diocese and the congregation gathered at this solemn ceremony. Mr Aaron D’Souza the president of YCS/YSM led the youth prayer of consecration to the Holy Cross. It was a solemn moment of blessing and commencement of the journey of the cross to different parishes in the Diocese. Regional convention cross will journey throughout the diocese visiting 19 parishes till 20 October, 2022. Details of Holy Cross journey as follows.
