The volunteers of the Prison Ministry of India Shimoga Diocese celebrated the National Girl Child’s Day along with the Republic Day on Wednesday, 29th of January 2025. The children from the Mary Immaculate Higher Primary School along with some teachers and Sr. Elize Lurdh SCB as the Co-Ordinator took active part to celebrate the event. The programme commenced with an action prayer song presented by the Primary School Children. Sr Elize Lurdh SCB welcomed the people present and explained the purpose of the gathering in the context of a girl child. She also explained the meaning of the Republic Day of India. Mrs. Annamma spoke on the value and gift of a girl child in the family. She explained how we ought to take care of a female child in the context of family and society and particularly in our schools. The officials and volunteers explained how important is our Republic Day and how we have cherished it for the past 75 years.
The Superintendent of the Prison, Kumari Bhavyaashri appreciated the meaningful programme presented by the PMI volunteers and the children and appreciated their generosity .She praised the PMI group for visiting the inmates of the prison regularly and giving them moral support and spending time with them & training the women with appropriate occupancy. After the programme few simple games were arranged for the inmates and prizes were given. Special song on Republic day was sung by the children. Mrs Ambika gave the vote of thanks, appreciating the contribution of the PMI Group and children. Some sweets were distributed to the inmates. The programme ended with a song sung by the school children.
