Shivamogga, March 10, 2025: The Youth Commission (ICYM, YCS/YSM), in cooperation with the Legion of Mary, SVP, and Diocesan Service of Communion, led a Lenten night vigil at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shivamogga, on Saturday, March 8th, from 9 pm to 5 am on Sunday, the 9th. Fr Franklin D'Souza, Diocesan Youth Director and Deacon Nishanth D'Costa led the Vigil. Vigil consisted of Taize prayer, the Way of the Cross, Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Eucharist.
The Vigil began with the Rosary, led by ICYM of Sacred Heart Cathedral Unit. At 9:30 pm, Fr. Franklin D'Souza and Deacon Nishant D'Costa led Taizé Prayer, which concluded at 12:00 midnight. Msgr. Stany D'Souza (Rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral), Fr. Paul Anand SJ (Assistant Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral), Fr. Franklin D'Souza, and Fr. Venil D'Silva (Family Commission Director and Procurator of the Diocese) helped in the Confessionals.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Youth, in collaboration with DEXCO, prepared the Taizé stage. Various ICYM, YCS/YSM, SVP, Legion of Mary, DSC, and DEXCO units facilitated the Way of the Cross from 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Fr. Franklin D’Souza and Dn. Nishanth D’Costa provided musical accompaniment and led healing prayers.
After the break at 3 a.m., Fr. Franklin D’Souza and Dn. Nishanth D’Costa led the adoration. Healing prayers were held for the youth, couples, and all those gathered separately. At 4 p.m., Fr. Franklin D’Souza celebrated the Holy Eucharist and thanked God for all the blessings the Diocese of Shimoga received.
At the end of the Mass, he thanked all who helped make the vigil a success.
