86 children of St Charles English Medium School, New Town, Bhadravathi presented an excellent programme at the Shivamogga Central Prison for men on Wednesday, 16 August 2023. This was organised by the Prison Ministry India (PMI), Shimoga Diocesan Unit to celebrate the 76th Independence Day.
The Prison Superintendent, Dr Anitha, the Assistant Superintendent, Mr Shivannda Shivapuri, Chitradurga, and Chikmagalur superintendents, along with Fr Pius D'Souza and Fr Ronald D’Cunha, Mr Davis, Sr Lucy, the Principal, Sr Theresa, the State Prison Ministry Coordinator, and, Sr Helen Moras, the Local Coordinator were present.
The children presented a well prepared cultural programme with songs and dances. Dr Anitha, the superintendent of the Jail, appreciated the performance of the students and the the support of the management for presenting such a meaningful programme that brought out the culture of different people in India and states.
Fr Pius D'Souza, the Youth Coordinator, addressed the inmates urging them to strive for inner freedom by forgiving everyone. He told them that we must have great love for our Motherland. Students also had an opportunity to visit the prison and experience the atmosphere over there. The staff and students who visited the prison to celebrate the Independence Day brought smiles on every inmate's face through their pleasant and happy presence.
