The Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) training programme for Laity was held on 8th of October 2023 at Sannidhi, the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Shimoga. 50 participants from different Parishes and Mission Stations took part in the one day programme. Fr. George Vincent Lobo, the Diocesan Director for BECs was the resource person.
The Training programme commenced with a short prayer led by Fr George Lobo. Rev Fr. Duming Dias, the Diocesan Commissions Coordinator and Sannidhi Director spoke about the necessity of BECs and the need of building of Catholic Communities. Fr George Lobo stressed on the need of regular training for BECs and thus to build a vibrant Parish and local Church.
He explained how to make BECs effective, and with the directives of CCBI form teams at various levels like service team, resource team, media desk that could be formed at diocesan and deanery level. He also explained the responsibilities of various tasks given to different persons. In this way the BECs become the platform for service, unity, harmony, awareness, united action for people of various walks of life.
The resource person also provided the information about three more ways of Gospel sharing to the participants. The participants expressed the need to have regular training for the different teams at various levels. Sr Dorothy helped the group to participate in action songs. The programme ended with Holy Eucharist.
