Chitradurga, Hiriyur, 27 February 2023:
As this year is dedicated to the Year of Woman and the Girl Child by the Diocese of Shimoga, the Holy Family Deanery, CRI Unit of Chitradurga felt the importance of highlighting the empowerment of girl child by conducting a programme on 26 February 2023 at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Hiriyur, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
The theme for the day was “Empowering the Girls Child for a Better Tomorrow”. The Dean, Rev. Fr George K A celebrated the Holy Eucharist at 8 am and prayed specially for the Girl Children. Liturgy was organised by the girls of the Parish. During his homily Rev. George K. A highlighted the necessity of upholding the dignity of the girl child and her importance in society.
After the Holy Eucharist half, a day programme was organised by Sr Metty Mathew, the President of CRI of Holy Family Deanery, together with the office bearers.
Rev. Fr George KA, Fr Nelson D'Souza and Councillor Mrs. Magdala Maria were on the dais along with the representatives from all the parishes of Holy Family Deanery. They all motivated the children with their talks giving emphasize to their rights.
The objective behind celebrating the Girl Child Day was to provide support and opportunities to the girl children and to encourage them to excel in all that they do.
From the Deanery all together 82 girls and 12 Religious Sisters took part in the programme. Various cultural programmes based on the theme was staged by the girls. Competitions were held and the prizes were distributed.
