A meaningful and heartwarming Christmas celebration was organized at Central Prison, Shimoga, on December 17, 2024. The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including:
Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao, Bishop of Shimog.Dr. Ranganath P. Superintendent, Central Prison Shimoga , Miss Preethi R. Assistant Superintendent, Central Prison for Men, Sr. Margret D’Silva, Headmistress, St. Charles Primary School, Bhadravathi . Sr. Theresa Mascarenhas, Karnataka State Coordinator, Prison Ministry India .Sr. Elize Lurdh, Sr. Malini, Sr. Bernadet, Sr. Helen Moras SCB, Coordinator of the Prison Ministry India, Shimoga Diocesan Unit. Jailors Mrs. Sushma and Mr. Anil. Teachers, students from St. Charles Primary School, Bhadravathi, Mr.Balakrishna and Mrs. Leela SN.
The programme commenced with vibrant performances by the students of St. Charles Primary School, whose beautifully choreographed dances symbolized the birth of Christ and brought the spirit of Christmas alive within the prison walls.

Bishop Francis Serrao delivered an inspiring Christmas message, emphasizing that the joy and peace of Christ transcend all barriers. He assured the inmates that the Church and Prison Ministry are with them, sharing their burdens and offering unwavering support. His words were a reminder that every individual has a role in creating a harmonious and inclusive society.
Gifts of Service:
As a gesture of care and commitment, Bishop Francis Serrao donated 200 dustbins and dustpans to the Central Prison, addressing a vital need for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. He expressed gratitude to the prison authorities for their cooperation and pledged continued collaboration between the Prison Ministry Shimoga Diocesan Unit and the Central Prison.
